In 2015, employees of Home Depot under the direction of Alana Hart constructed raised beds and filled them with pea gravel and dirt and later planted them with seedlings of different vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, eggplant and various herbs. Mary Lou Baker watered and weeded the plants and helped harvest the produce, which was given to veterans and others in the Orion area who could use some help in having fresh vegetables.
Every year since then, Home Depot has generously donated the seedlings and planted them for our community. Volunteers have tended the garden, harvested the crops and distributed them to those who could most benefit from having fresh vegetables as part of their meals. We thank all those who continue to make our Victory Garden a huge benefit for our heroes.
